second gold medal AUSTRALIA'S largest Miner Lihir Gold says it has assets of long-term quality, the gold price trend is all for the good as the company works hard to achieve their expansion plans.
In an appearance on the lightning fast Tenth Papua New Guinea Mining and Investment Conference in Sydney this week Lihir Gold director Arthur Hood said the price of gold would continue an upward trend.
Speaking to MiningNews.net the sidelines of the conference, Hood said the trend in gold prices was good news for producers of long duration and Lihir.
"There's a lot of fluctuation from day to day or week to week fluctuations, but if you just look back over the past two years, in early 2005 gold was $ US400 an ounce in early 2006 was $ US500/oz, a year later, was $ US600/oz, now is 25% higher, so the long-term trend and medium-term trend is bullish, "he said.
"But the trend is good. Mine supply is falling, demand is rising and you have the volatility in financial markets, all that is good for gold. "
Hood said the current set of economic interventions worldwide are also good for gold.
"I'm no economist, but you have to say the United States is probably in recession now. There potential for inflation to throw that amount of money being pushed into the market. "
Speaking to delegates at the conference, emphasized the chapel of the portfolio Lihir Ivory Coast, the company collected in the merger with Equigold earlier this year.
He said The mine recently commissioned Bonikro had some "nice soft oxide" through the mill and would be a producer of 120,000 ounces at least for the next eight years from its current reserves.
"But of course I went to Ivory Coast not just to run a mine 100.000 ounces years. There is a package of great exploration that comes with the merger Equigold, some 22,000 sq km of main scanning 3000 square miles that is within 25 miles from the mine Bonikro trucks.
"We have almost half a million ounces of resources already identified within this area of Costa Ivory [] of the portfolio and are busy punching away to prove more resources and reserves to add either center or the operation Bonikro to increase production Bonikro operation, and we hope to see something happen in the next year or two. "
In the same operations company name on the island of Lihir in Papua New Guinea, said the company still has 23 million ounces in reserves and resources 40Moz.
"We still we are studying and we are still finding more resources on Lihir so, an estimated life of the mine, which will run until 2023 with the mining.
"And then we stack processing in excess of another 10 years beyond that."
Lihir 1 million oz improvement project is also designed to exploit massive reserves in the mine, as the current treatment has been out of step with the rate mining for quite some time.
"We spent the mineral mining past ten years the rate of six-eight million tonnes of ore per year, but we've only been processing 3-4000000 tonnes of ore – as we have been building this huge reserve and we have some 55 million tons of ore stored at this time. "
He said both the updating of the processing plant is the only step necessary to become 1Moz Lihir mine.
Once this update Hood, expects the plant to process some 10-12Mt of ore per year.
The update is expected in 2011. Meanwhile, the company remains confident of reaching its destination register 700 to 770.000 oz Lihir's annual mine this year.
Lihir shares were last at $ 2.40, up 10c today.
