Is the book Interview with the Vampire a lot like the movie?

I’ve seen the movie many times and I really liked it. I wanted to know if the book was a lot like the movie because I don’t want to buy it the book and basically be reading the movie.
I’ve done that before with another movie and I couldn’t even read the book. But there has been times where I have read the book after I saw the movie and it was a lot different and better.
Please help!
